Successful Language programme with Harvey Nichols
Stevenson College Edinburgh (SCE) and Harvey Nichols (Edinburgh) recently teamed up to deliver an innovative language programme. The programme was designed specifically to help improve the reputation of customer service in Edinburgh, one of the hopes being that the project would contribute to the overall economic development of the city.
The idea for the programme came partly from the results of a number of independent research projects which championed the positive effect of a more multi lingual workforce within the Scottish retail and hospitality sectors.
As a result, SCE and Harvey Nichols teamed up to deliver a teaching programme in Spanish to a proportion of its staff as well as employees in the hospitality sector in Edinburgh. The programme covered key words and phrases in Spanish and knowledge of the basic customer journey. The course was delivered to 13 enthusiastic students over a 10 week programme.
The course was completed on 28th June and was celebrated with a short reception and Certificate Ceremony hosted by Harvey Nichols. The reception was attended by some of the students and the keys members of staff at each organisation who facilitated the programme.
The College was delighted to work with such a major retailer and the hope is that the programme will continue by focusing on other languages associated with key economic development. There are also plans in progress to develop the delivery model into parnterships with other organsations within the retail and hospitality sectors.
