Electrifying Success for Tornado Storage Solutions

In early November, SCE Enterprise worked with the electrical department at SCE to design and deliver a bespoke Electrical Awareness training programme for storage company Tornado Storage Solutions.

Tornado Storage Solutions supplies innovative and dynamic automated storage solutions for the retail market. The company installs, commissions, services and repairs all types of material handling equipment and is now a leading provider of advanced storage solutions on a worldwide scale. Tornado Storage Solutions currently works with a number of high profile clients including IKEA, Johnson Security and Play.com.

Training Requirement

The brief was to deliver a comprehensive programme of Electrical Awareness training for a group of ten staff. The training was to be designed to give the staff who attended the session (mainly mechanical and IT engineers) a broad awareness of the electrical issues within their roles with a view to streamlining health and safety practices in day to day work.

Training Solution

SCE Lecturer Craig Smith carefully designed and developed a 3 day programme for Tornado Storage Solutions which covered:

  • Assessment of Safe Working Practices (Health and Safety)
  • Safe Isolation
  • Basic and Fault Protection
  • Overview of Electrical Testing
  • Basic Fault Finding/Use of Instruments

Training Result

SCE Enterprise was delighted to hear from Tornado Storage Solutions that the training was highly successful.

Dave Scott, Technical Manager at Tornado Storage Solutions highlighted the benefits of the training and explained: "The training provided by SCE Enterprise has helped us increase the electrical competence across the board because this is where we see the highest possible risk of injury to the staff occurring.

Tornado Storage Solutions has reported seeing its staff adopt a more professional method of working since attending the training. This is in part is attributed to the increase in staff confidence as a result of the training and Mr Scott feels that it is this which is helping to significantly improve not only the electrical health and safety skills at Tornado Storage Solutions but also its customer service levels.
