Time Management

Aim

This management development course will explore the techniques used to assess and improve the use of time in the workplace.  It will enable to appreciation of the importance of time management for individuals and teams.

  • be clear about their own time management problems
  • appreciate the consequences on others of their time management difficulties
  • be able to put ideas into action to ensure effective use of time

Course Content

The course will cover:

  • how to establish goals and priorities
  • how planning is essential to maximise effective time and usage
  • the principles of effective delegation: neither overtasking nor undertasking
  • helping others manage their time effectively by direct intervention and through effective personal use of time
  • investigation of participants own time management issues
  • preparation of action plan to improve use of time

Other issues of time management can be covered if required, for example:

  • delegation: delegating effectively and developing staff
  • assertiveness and managing time
  • stress and effective time management
  • communication channels and time

This course is participant centred and interactive and is designed to provide a setting in which workplace located issues are approached in the context of the subject under discussion.  Practical outcomes in the form of action planning for implementation in the workplace are combined with focused discussion of theoretical perspectives in a positive learning environment.  Group work, case studies, simulations and management training dvds are used as appropriate.  Participants can be assessed against written submissions if this is desired.

Assessment

This short course can be used as credit towards the ILM Certificate in First Line Management at Level 3.

It is worth 2 credits and a written assessment must be completed to gain these credits.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements but some experience within a management role would be desirable.
