Managing Work/Life Balance

Aim

This course is designed for individuals who would like to pursue a more effective work / life balance. It will provide an opportunity to take time to explore options and practise techniques which may assist you in achieving an effective work / life balance.

Objectives

  • Identify and explore the key components of an effective work / life balance
  • Identify and exploration of a variety of effective work / life balance practices
  • Identify and effectively deal with the impacts of over-stress, under-stress and cumulative stress
  • Examin effective ways of managing pressure in order to improve performance and to avoid the negative effects of excessive pressure
  • Identify effective ways of adapting to individual differences (the individual's and others') so that everyday conflict becomes manageable
  • Identify an individual strategy for making work / life balance an achievable reality

Through initial small theoretical inputs and handout material for reflection, students will be assisted in their understanding of key components and how they impact on work life balance. Individuals will be assisted in their understanding and familiarity through small group discussions and self reflective questionnaire analysis. Feedback to individual students will be through tutor interaction and group facilitation.

Course Content

The standard course will cover:

  • Identification and exploration of the key components of an effective work / life balance
  • Identification and exploration of a variety of effective work / life
  • balance practices
  • Identifying and effectively dealing with the impacts of over-stress, under-stress and cumulative stress
  • Effective ways of managing pressure in order to improve
  • performance and to avoid the negative effects of excessive pressure.
  • Identifying effective ways of adapting to individual differences (the individual's and others') so that everyday conflict becomes manageable
  • Individual strategy identification for making work / life balance an achievable reality

The course will utilise a variety of training approaches including, questionnaires, self assessment, self analysis, case studies, small group discussions and lecturettes with accompanying handouts.

Assessment

This course does not contain a formal assessment but students are encouraged to utilise their individual strategy for achieving a work/life balance within their own workplace.
