Financial Awareness for Non-financial Managers
Aim
This course will provide non-financial managers with a clearer understanding of the importance of financial accounting in the workplace.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- understand what a cash budget is
- understand the purpose and information given by the Profit and Loss account
- understand the purpose and information given by the Balance Sheet
- understand the purpose and information given by the Cash Flow Statement
- be able to analyse and interpret financial information
- be able to communicate with their colleagues on financial accounting issues
Course Content
The course (standard) will cover:
- What is Accounting? - both financial and management
- Profit and Loss Accounts
- Balance Sheets – assets, liabilities and capital
- Cash Flow Statements - accounting layouts
- Sources of Finance
- Analysis of Financial Statements
- Accounting standards and concepts used in preparation of financial accounts
Assessment
The approach will be highly participative involving both tutor input and practice by the participants. The published annual accounts of the participants company could be used for discussion and example. Group discussion will focus on work related issues and case studies will be utilised where appropriate.
This course is suitable for middle management/supervisors who do not have an accounting background but need a basic understanding of finance and how it relates to their own job.
