NEBOSH National Diploma - Block Release
Aim
**Course dates - Block 1 10th, 11th February 2011, Block 2 16th, 17th, 18th March 2011, Block 3 27th, 28th, 29th April 2011, Block 4 18th, 19th May 2011, Revision day 16th June 2011**
This course will cover all the main areas on which a skilled safety practitioner would be expected to advise.
Objectives
Course Content
The course consists of three units and incorporates communication, writing and presentation skills.
Managing Health and Safety (Unit A)
- Principles of health and safety management
- Loss causation and incident investigation
- Identifying hazards, assessing and evaluating risk
- Risk control and emergency planning
- Organisational factors
- Human factors
- Principles of health and safety law
- Civil law
- Measuring health and safety performance
Unit A is scheduled to take place as follows:
Block 1: 1 - 3 September and 9 - 10 September 2010
Block 2: 6 - 8 October and 14 - 15 October 2010
Block 3: 10 - 12 November and 18 - 19 November 2010
A half-day revision workshop takes place on 15 December 2010.Hazardous agents in the workplace (Unit B)
- General aspects of occupational health and hygiene
- Principles of toxicology and epidemiology
- Chemical agents – evaluating risk
- Hazardous substances – preventative and protective measures
- Hazardous substances – monitoring and maintenance of control measures
- Biological agents
- Physical agents (1) – noise and vibration
- Physical agents (2) – radiation and thermal environment
- Psycho-social agents
- Ergonomic agents
Workplace and work equipment (Unit C)
- General workplace issues
- Principles of fire and explosion
- Workplace fire risk assessment
- The storage, handling and processing of dangerous substances
- Work equipment
- Machinery safety
- Mechanical Handling
- Electrical Safety
- Safety in construction and demolition
- Environmental pollution and waste management
Assessment
The final award is dependent on completion of an 8000 (approx) word assignment and 3 examinations (one for each unit).
Unit A 3 weeks plus a revision workshop
Unit B 2 weeks plus a revision workshop
Unit C2 weeks plus a revision workshop
Unit D – is an ongoing project which should be worked on throughout the duration of the course.
The programme is delivered over 3 semesters.
This course is designed for those who are already working in health and safety and wish to obtain formal recognition or for those who are taking on extra health and safety responsibilities as part of their job. The NEBOSH National Diploma is the leading qualification in this field.
Entry Requirements
The entry requirement is the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or a comparative VQ / SVQ level 3 award. Enrolment is also subject to a telephone interview by a health and safety tutor.
