Crew Commander Units
Aim
- provides a sound starting point for an ambitious Fire-fighter to begin their career progression up the corporate ladder.
- creates a workforce appropriately trained to deliver the role of Crew Commander
- designed to meet the theoretical knowledge and competencies required for the role of a first line supervisor in an airport fire service.
Objectives
- Objectives are set to accommodate possible future changes in legislation, theory and practice
- Objectives are based on realistic competencies
- Firefighters are required to apply the knowledge gained within their assessments thereby ensuring an understanding of the practical application and relevance of theories and practices
Course Content
The course is delivered in 5 distinct modules - which are:
Module 1 Statutory Requirements
Module 2 Equipment
Module 3a Operations: Leadership & Command
Module 3b Operations and Special Risks
Module 4 Airport Environment
Module 5 Fire Safety
Assessment
The course follows a 12 month study calendar and the student is expected to study each unit, building up their own notes from the references which are given. A tutor marked assessment must be completed at the end of each module.
Once all 5 modules have been completed and the assessments taken, a final examination is administered and this forms 50% of the participants final mark.
Entry Requirements
Potential candidates should already be working in the aviation fire industry and have at least completed their Initial Training.
