Video Production

Aim

The Video Production course is for you if you enjoy watching films and would like to try your hand at making programmes.

This course will help you develop the basic skills you need to start making videos.  Each session of this 10 week course will concentrate on building your knowledge of the practical techniques of video production and giving you the confidence you need to help you produce your own work. The types of work that you may produce while being a student on the course include a short documentaries, dramas or music videos. Programmes are produced in different formats for different media such as the web, DVD, VCD or Data DVD.

All out film-based courses are taught by lecturers who have extensive commercial, industrial experience in areas such as independent film-making, advertising and broadcasting and producing animation.

When you finish the course you can keep your work in the form of a portforlio. The Media and Audio Visual department may also include your work in SCE's end of year show. The department submits a selection of the most striking and entertaining media produced by all SCE students throughout the year.

Objectives

This course is ideal for the computer beginner or even if you have taken a break and just need to refresh your skills.  You will cover the processes and techniques required to plan, produce, shoot and edit a short video.

Course Content

Hands on experience with:

  • Digital video cameras
  • Sound equipment
  • Non-Linear editing suites (using Adobe Premier Edit Suites)
  • Portable lighting kits
